Symbiotic Relationship of Being and Doing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Being is the Who.\u00a0 The things you cannot physically see or touch.\u00a0 Being includes awareness, thinking, feeling, and skills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Doing is the What.\u00a0 Actions you take and tasks you perform.\u00a0 Doing includes motion, effort, action, and physical functions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">While the Being focuses on emotional or intellectual energy, the Doing focuses on physical or mechanical energy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Now, let\u2019s over-simplify: if you focus only on the being, who you are, and refrain from doing, your value and existence are limited.\u00a0The Doing is how you eat, breathe, sleep, and support yourself financially.\u00a0 If you focus on the doing to the exclusion of the being, your value and efforts are limited.\u00a0 The Being is how you process information, consider choices, and make decisions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">When you maximize both the Being and the Doing, and even better coordinate the two, you maximize your potential.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">There are times when a focus on only the Being or only the Doing is important or even necessary.\u00a0 Of course, the other continues to operate even if minimally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">How can a coach prepare to work with both the Being and the Doing?\u00a0 To state the obvious, start with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/en\/training.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">coach training<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 Earning membership in the <a href=\"https:\/\/coachfederation.org\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">International Coach Federation<\/span><\/a>, ICF, really is a minimum standard for calling yourself a coach.\u00a0 Coach-specific training teaches the ethics and competencies.\u00a0Both are foundational to Doing and to Being.\u00a0 Then, keep going.\u00a0 Move on to earning a credential with the ICF.\u00a0 As an illustration, at the first level of credentialing, the ACC, a focus primarily on the Doing is considered acceptable.\u00a0 At the PCC and MCC levels a focus primarily on the Doing is expected.\u00a0It is easy to then extrapolate that the significance of Being in a coaching relationship is very high, and that developing the skill for that focus takes time and
